Gustavus A. Grosse and his four sons camped on the river bank where the family cemetery now stands near Little Suamico, along the Little Suamico River. Gustavus , his wife Caroline Wilhelmina, and sons John, William, George, and Charles left Germany in 1849 for Green Bay. They were the first permanent settlers to the area.
